Pet Adoption Tips: Naming Your Pet

Choosing a suitable name for your pet can be a difficult decision simply because there are so many names out there to choose from. People often choose human names or nicknames for their pets, while others may choose a character name from a film or a name that is connected to the appearance, behavior and color of the pet e.g. Patch or Stripes.

Keep in mind that you will be using the chosen name often, and in public too, so avoid using a name that will cause embarrassment or offense, or one which is difficult to say! Imagine yourself walking around the neighborhood, calling for a puppy that has gotten off his leash. Choosing an easy one or two-syllable name will also make it easier for your pet to learn.
